Medicaid Check-In 2023This year Medicaid renewal is not automatic.

Check in with us to make sure your info is current.

When the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, Marylanders who were eligible for Medicaid then continued to be covered, even if they are no longer eligible now.

If you are no longer eligible or need to renew your Medicaid coverage, you will receive a notice from Maryland Health Connection in your account or in the mail when it’s your turn to renew.

Keep your info current. Keep yourself insured.

What you need to do:

1. Update your contact information.

Make sure Maryland Health Connection has your current mailing address, phone number, and email. This way, we will be able to contact you about your coverage. To update contact information online, log in to your account at MarylandHealthConnection.gov.

If you need to reset your account password, use our virtual assistant Flora or the link on the login page.

2. Watch for communications from Maryland Health Connection.

Not everyone will be up for renewal at the same time. You will receive a notice in the mail or in your online account (if you chose paperless) when it’s time to renew. When you get your notice, you will have 45 days to respond.

3. Renew your coverage or enroll in a private plan when you receive your notice.

Read your notice carefully. This notice will tell you to complete your renewal or let you know if you are no longer eligible for Medicaid coverage.

If your Medicaid ends:

You may still have options for health coverage.

If you are eligible and you need to submit documents

You can submit documents within 120 days of your coverage ending.

  • Log into your account and upload documents using the link in My Inbox.

  • Once your eligibility is confirmed, you will be re-enrolled with your previous managed care organization (MCO) within 10 days If you paid for services while you were without Medicaid coverage, you may be able to get help with the cost of your medical bill.

If you are no longer eligible because your household income increased

Low-cost health insurance options, such as private plans from CareFirst, Kaiser Permanente and UnitedHealthcare, are available. You have until July 31, 2024, to enroll in a private plan through Maryland Health Connection, but don't wait! Enroll as soon as you learn you're no longer eligible for Medicaid, so you don’t have a gap in coverage.

If you are eligible for Medicare

If you are now 65 or older, you can enroll in Medicare. You qualify for a Medicare Advantage Special Enrollment Period (SEP). The SEP starts when you have been notified that your Medicaid coverage is ending and ends six months after your Medicaid coverage end date. Your Medicare benefits will start the month after Medicare enrollment. To enroll, visit your local Social Security office, or call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213.
